I don't know about the consistency difference but I use +
Cerave Healing Ointment over Vanicream Moisturizing Cream at night. I can't use Aquaphor or Vaseline on my face

Typically you stick to what the surgeon recommends +
and ask them if you're unsure. But generally, you'd use neither as long as stitches/strips are still in place and just use Vaseline/petroleum jelly
