You can lightly exfoliate when using retinoids/retinol/retinal….++
The key is to space out the use of the retinol to the point where you’re getting NO irritation. If there’s irritation you’re using it too frequently.

I would use a silicone sheet as much as possible (ideally 24/7 for 4 months but if you can't ++
swing that, wear it as much as possible). It forced the skin to heal flat as possible so you don't end up with a raised scar.
