If detangling before shower is feeling rough, spray it down with a detangler or leave in condition+
then brush it out. I use something like the "unbrush" or similar style, not a bristle brush (before the shower). -In the shower: wash and condition

not true, you can brush wavy/curly hair. I brush mine daily else it would be a knotted mess +
