Oh I use the tresseme heat protectant up to my ears and then living proof on top of my head because+
My hair gets oily if I use anything heavy. I can use stuff on the ends but any higher and my roots turn oily quick.

It sounds like a good method! To soften your hair, I would try using a deep conditioner on the ends+

The Living Proof color care says it’s chelating & I like it overall but not sure if it r/o
