I wash my natural hair fude with Garnier micellar face wash. It's gentle but cleanses well. +
I don't think any special method is necessary except just using the palm of your hands to lather the brush head (never used one of those mitts anyways

Just on the scalp, don't worry about the lengths. Add a little water to create some lather and massage some more. Then rinse entire hair.
