I need something on my nails because they are stained from polish and have taken a beating from gel+
At the very least, I do base coat / a sheer like Zoya Sabrina or Loretta / top coat. I'm way more likely to do gel base / gel top though because that

They work ok. You may want to try just adding some clear gel base coat

Base is more important in preventing chipping. +
It also helps tons to get your nails healthy and smooth rather than peeling. Polish lasts longer on an evenly smooth surface. Right now I'm loving Vib

Top & base coat performance is dependent on your personal chemistry.+
They don't work the same for everyone. I've never had an issues with Seche Vite but there are plenty who can't use it because of shrinkage or chipping
