I always use a base coat, as many coats as needed to get the opacity I want, and then a shiny top +
coat . Different colors will need different amounts of coats and may have different finishes. If you see a color you like try it!

I didn't experience chipping with the geodes but I did with the China Glaze holos. For some reason+
they didn't work well with my base coat and performed better when I applied them to my bare nail. Maybe try a different base coat?
