IME cleanser should not sting. You can introduce Differin slowly working up to every night.

I will add to this that although there aren't a ton of studies, the ones that exist are +

I had acne for 20 years. Most skincare didn't work miracles but the Avene range designed for acne +
is decent. You can buy trial kits I think. I had to take BCP AND use Retin A, ultimately. But I am really hesitant to recommend this to a child :(
