Then blend my transition or softening color into crease with a fluffy brush. Works well for me and I seem to have less fallout.

Yes, even pre-YouTube. I like it more than using an eye primer because it will even out+
skin tone on my eyelids (vs. a clear primer) and was always good if doing something like a cut crease to blend & blur some transitional shadow shades
